DIY Eiffel Tower Pinata
It’s getting close- in a couple of weeks the Oh Happy Day team will be in PARIS!! The excitement in the studio is palpable, and we’re really getting into the Paris-themed DIYs. I mean, how have we never created an Eiffel Tower piñata before?? Read on for the how-to!
Materials: Eiffel Tower image, large piece of cardboard, projector, x-acto knife, pencil, gold mylar tissue paper, hot glue gun, white gesso, brush, cardstock (in blue, red and white), bamboo skewers, twine, scissor
Step 1: Project a picture of the Eiffel tower onto a big piece of cardboard and trace the outer edge with a pencil. Cut out the the shape with a x-acto knife. Leave the triangle in the middle, that part is just going to be white.
Step 2: Take the cut out shape and make a mirror image by tracing the shape onto another cardboard with a pencil. Make a total of four of the same shape and cut out
Step 3: Glue the four shapes together with hot glue gun. Let cool.
Step 4: Measure the interior edge of the tower and cut a square to fit from cardboard. Attach it with hot glue.
Step 5: When all the pieces is glued together, paint the pinata white!
Step 6: While the pinata dries, start cutting fringe from the gold mylar tissue paper. We did the fringe about 2” tall and 1cm wide. Once dry, attach the foil fringe from the bottom, up. Don’t forget to keep the triangle in the middle of each side white without fringe.
Step 7: To be able to hang the pinata, make a small hole in the bottom square of the pinata. Take a piece of cardboard, roll it into a small tube, tie a string around the tube, take the other end of the string and stick it through the small hole and up the whole way through the top.
Step 8: Last step, make the flag! Cut out a square 4-1/2 “ by 3” of white cardstock, then cut out a third of the size in a red cardstock and a third of the size in blue cardstock. Glue the two pieces on to the white cardstock so it makes the french flag. Do the same thing on the backside. Add a stick in between with hot glue before you attach the blue cardstock.
Step 9: Fill the pinata with treats and confetti from the remaining hole at the top (or cut yourself a trap door at the base). You are good to go!
