POSTPONEMENT OF THE WORLD PHOTOGRAPHIC CUP CEREMONY

POSTPONEMENT OF THE WORLD PHOTOGRAPHIC  CUP CEREMONY

A PROBLEM, A SOLUTION, AND A COMMITMENT TO UNITE THE WORLD

We regret to inform you that circumstances surrounding the continued spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) make the rescheduling of the 2020 awards presentation ceremony imperative. We recognize that the situation has created difficulties for all involved and we applaud the Italian government for its proactive approach.

Having considered all options, it is our great pleasure to announce that the 2020 World Photographic Cup event will go on in the face of adversity! The event will be postponed six months to the day. The awards ceremony will now be held either September 21st or 28th in Rome, Italy.  A specific date and the new program will be issued in a matter of days after organizers are able to confirm venues. Interestingly, the new date brings with it some advantages, including more pleasant temperatures and lower travel costs. Most importantly, it will allow enough time for the current crisis to pass.

Of course, the WPC will fully reimburse the costs incurred by those who had registered for events included in the  previous dates program. Travel plans will have to be cancelled and new ones created. This statement and the directive from the Italian government  (Dpcm 4 marzo 2020 ) should be sufficient to help you avoid any cancellation fees.

We urge you to mark your calendars and make your arrangements for the new dates as we celebrate the importance of photography in our world. We believe WPCROMA2020 will be the sweetest World Photographic Cup celebration ever!  We’ll see you in six months!

World Photographic Cup statement on COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

The World Photographic Cup is committed to providing a safe environment for its awards celebration.  We are closely monitoring the recent developments in northern Italy, and have already met to map out a possible strategy should the situation there worsen significantly.  WPC organizers will always err on the side of caution.  If there is the slightest concern for the safety of attendees, the event will be either relocated or postponed.   Rome is not affected by the outbreak at this time, and there is no indication that it will be.  While we are monitoring the situation extremely closely, an objective and rational assessment does not warrant a change at this time.  As always, we urge attendees to make decisions that are best for them, and look forward to another exciting awards ceremony on March 23rd.

We urge WPC team captains in their respective countries to disseminate this information to their members.  We will also update this information on https://worldphotographiccup.org as necessary.

WPC Competition 2020 will start in a few days!

The WPC was founded in 2013 as a cooperative effort by the Federation of European Photographers (FEP) and Professional Photographers of America (PPA). After six years of strong global expansion, our one of a kind, olympic styled team competition, has managed to build a solid foundation in our efforts to become one of the world’s leading photographic events, thanks to our dedicated governing committee and colleagues from all over the world. Our goal remains the same as always: to continue creating friendships and uniting professional photographers worldwide.
The next competition (WPC 2020, n.7) will open for team registrations on June 1st 2019. It will possible to upload the pictures from July 1st, up to October 15. The judging phase will be finalized within the first half of December, and the finalists and best of nations authors will be announced once again at Imaging USA, the longest running photographic convention, next year in Nashville, TN, USA, from January 16th to 21st.
As for the WPC annual winners’ awards, you can rest assured that WPC will continue to offer new exciting destinations for its amazing ceremony! After USA, France, Portugal, Japan, Australia and Norway, you will be pleased to know that next year the winners’ announcement will be in Rome, Italy, on March 23rd, 2020!
The WPC ceremony in Rome will be preceded by the FEP European Professional Photographer of the Year Awards celebration, making the whole event even more appealing, on a very global scale.
It has been also decided that the venue for the announcement 2021 will be Guadalajara, Mexico!
After the amazing number of 32 nations entered last year, from five continents, our aim for the next edition is to reach a new best ever record of national teams.
We are constantly on the lookout for new ways to offer all entered teams our most efficient assistance to compete and win. The WPC rules will remain the same, including the six traditional categories (commercial, illustration, nature, portrait, reportage and wedding). However, you will notice a few changes in the portrait and wedding category descriptions, so that to help photographers to make their best possible choices.
The WPC Governing Committee likes to thank once again our instigating associations, our commercial sponsors, and each and every one teams captains and members for their support, and wishes to all national teams best of luck for the next competition.
The World Photographic Cup will continue to deliver and live up to the photographers’ expectations for many years to come. Thank you for supporting the World Photographic Cup!

Who will take home the 2019 World Cup?

That is the question we will answer in just ten days!

The World Photographic Cup (WPC) was founded in 2013 as a cooperative effort by The Federation of European Photographers (FEP) and Professional Photographers of America (PPA), and since then the event continues to grow. This year a record number or 32 countries entered the competition, including new countries from Central and South America, and judging the stunning images which have been submitted has not been an easy job…

“The judging committee watched closely as the judges analysed each and every image. We can say with complete enthusiasm that the judges put their heart and soul into each and every score. The very exciting part of the process is the results. I don’t mean the medallists, which will be made known in a short time”, said Don MacGregor, chairman of the Judging Committee. “I am referencing the very subtle difference from the top score to the bottom, added Don MacGregor. “In virtually every category, the difference is less than a few points and many positions are decided by 100th’s of a point. That means that every entrant, every country is in the game. Every entrant and every country should be proud of their efforts.”

Last year the WPC has been held in Sydney, Australia, and the US Team won the cup.

“As a past host of the World Photographic Cup presentation, I have experienced first-hand the WPC’s goal to unite photographers in a spirit of friendship. There is no better way to build worldwide ties and make long standing friendships than by hosting the WPC announcement presentation in your own country, alongside one of your local events”, said Kylie Lyons, member of the WPC organizing committee.

The city of Drammen, in Norway, will be the place for hosting the WPC FINALS 2019. The date for the event is April 8th and the venue will be at the historical Drammens Teater. “Both our Norwegian Association and myself are looking forward to hosting the WPC award ceremony in Norway, to meeting our international friends in person”, answered Truls Løtvedt, President of the Norges Fotografforbund, “and to be given the possibility to enjoy beautiful images together. Both on screen during the ceremony and also exhibited at the event and for almost four weeks at Fotografiens Hus in Oslo, where the stunning winning images will be displayed, thanks to ChromaLuxe, WPC Gold Sponsor.  I am certain this will be an event to be remembered, both nationally and internationally”.

“This year will have a record number of international delegates gathering in Norway… almost 150 from 20 countries. Of course, I can’t give you any anticipation about the winners”, said Giuseppe Scozzi, WPC CEO. “However, I can say that the true internationality is demonstrated by the fact that within the 18 medal winners, there are represented 12 countries from 4 continents!”.

Again, who will take home the 2019 World Cup?

A new world record for the World Photographic Cup 2019 !

Official registration has closed for WPC 2019. In its sixth edition, the competition has achieved a new record of participation, with 32 teams from 4 continents. The Olympic styled photographic team competition open to professionals and best authors of each country, was conceived and is carried out every year from 2013 by the FEP (Federation of European Photographers) and by the PPA (Professional Photographers of America), with the cooperation of other international organisations , UAPP (United Asian Professional Photography) and AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photographers), continues to grow and get global consensus.
In total will be 17 European countries, 7 from Asia, 6 Americans and 2 from Oceania to contend the prestigious Cup, which was won last year by the U.S. representation. This year, for the first time, Bangladesh, Panama and a collective representation of Latin American countries are participating.
The competition is currently in the “judging phase”. International judges will examine about 600 photographs (18 for each team). The top – 10 (finalists) of the six categories in which the competition has always been divided (portrait, wedding, reportage, commercial, nature and illustration) and the “Best of Nations”, that is, the authors of the photos that will receive the highest score for each team, they will be announced at Imaging USA 2019, in Atlanta, on January 20.
The individual medals and the team ranking, which is given by the sum of the best results obtained by the team-members, will be announced in Drammen, Norway, on April 8, 2019. The team receiving the highest score will win the prestigious World Photographic Cup 2019.
” The WPC Governing Committee and our proud Gold Sponsors , ChromaLuxe and KoyLab wish to all team best luck ! There is no other photographic contest that offers participants the prestige and honour of defending the colours of their country in a spirit of friendship and co-operation, said Giuseppe Scozzi, CEO of the event, on behalf of the organizing Committee. This is the simple secret of a competition that attracts more attention every year in the world of photography. “
